Ever since the lockdown was announced, villagers of Uttar Pradesh's Sarai Misrani's village were unable to support themselves.
Their main source of income was MNREGA work in their village, and due to the lockdown, all work had stopped.
However, during the second phase of the lockdown the govt. allowed MNREGA work to be restarted. Many of the poor villagers did not have a job card and hence were unable to benefit from this scheme.
Our community correspondent Anil Kumar intervened and spoke to the local panchayat to get the villagers registered.
Today, not only are the villagers working under MNREGA but are also receiving increased wages.
